I'd like to be referred to, at least once in my life, as "...the maven of (insert yet-to-be-determined topic here)..." There's just something about maven that inspires reverence.

Work is going well. Just received a promotion...assistant vice president (of what, who knows), and was asked to manage a team of people in the northwest who teach classes for new hires (in addition to my current job)! Must be doing something right.

The installation of the new wood floors was finished yesterday. Very excited about that!

We usually see only the things we are looking for.

So much so that we sometimes see them where they are not.

Time:9:19 pm.
Mood: optimistic.
Finally finished registering for Spring term classes, which start next week. In a valiant (read: suicidal) attempt to make some headway, I've got it into my mind that I can successfully complete 17 credits while working full time. Harumph. I am very excited about a couple of the classes, though.

Monday Existentialism
Tuesday/Thursday Economics of Green Power
Wednesday Public Speaking
Web Sociology
Seminar (two days for 1 credit...not bad) Interpersonal Violence

Today was my first day back from a week-long vacation (where I did not think of work once, for once, but was happily able to spend some time in the yard). My manager has the ability to slip the word 'truly' into nearly every sentence, and never mean it. It really grates me. Luckily, she's in Seattle so I can make the appropriate gestures while talking to her on the phone or via SameTime.

We have another person on our floor at work, bringing the total to four (in an area that has offices available for ten). He seems pretty nice. Now there's three guys and Michelle. She likes it that way, I'm pretty sure.

Am now enjoying a week of vacation...well, enjoying it once finals are finished. I am in desperate need of a haircut.

Subject:'...you're soaking in it...'
Time:9:28 pm.
Mood: numb.
My mom called to wish me a happy birthday. Being only a little bit upset that she had missed my birthday by almost a week, I told her she was late, but thanks. She then told me she is planning on moving out of the house. I can't for the life of me remember putting that on my wish list, though I have been pretty busy with work and school.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. A part of me feels angry. As though parents were supposed to stay together forever. At least mine were. Hoping against hope it's just a bad period that they'll work through.

Then there's the rest of me who hasn't seen either of them honestly happy (or honest, for that matter) in a very long time. Mom pouring herself into work. Dad poring over eBay, and still without a job.

She hasn't told him yet. She's been looking at apartments.

This puts me in a very awkward situation.

My aunt (the only one of my mom's 12 brothers and sisters that I actually like) overdosed on heroin last night. She managed to pull through. This time.

B just found out that his job is going away in 5 months.

My brother and his girlfriend find out the gender of their baby later this week. Easily the brightest point of any week for an eager uncle-to-be, but especially after this one.

Time:9:44 pm.
Mood:Momentarily satiated.
Just got back from a visit to Spokompton. The drive up was uneventful; the drive back was very foggy. It took almost 2 hours longer than it should have due to the complete lack of visibility. While there, we went to B's friend Angie's 30th birthday party, which was nice. Also got to visit with Kerry and George (smack dab between their birthdays) for an hour, which was great. Not the hour part, but the visiting part. Looking forward to a visit from them in the near future for coffee and an aqua massage while ogling the eastern European boys staffing the whirligig kiosk in some nameless dog turd-shaped mall.

Just finished You Shall Know Our Velocity. Not yet sure what I think about it. Also just finished listening to the state of the union address. Am quite sure what I think of it.

Time:8:58 pm.
Mood: chipper.
Made it in to work today, which under any other circumstances might not sound so exciting, but after being trapped in the house for a few days one develops an appreciation for any out of house activities. I had a pretty good week, work-wise...hired 17 people. Considering the goal is 60 a quarter, all the difficulties with the weather, and being only 3 weeks into the job, I'm pretty impressed with myself. I was shakin it like a polaroid picture at the end of the day today.

TNT has been running Charmed reruns, and has switched back to the early episodes with Shannen Doherty. For some reason in every single close-up shot with her in it they use a soft-focus lens. It's really become irritating. And makes me forlorn on this fortnight, harkening back to a time when... well, any other time, really.

The cat has taken to attacking the dog for no reason. Her favorite tactic is to wait at the doggie door, forcing the dog to either stay outside all day long or run the gauntlet so to speak and face the wrath of khan, er kitty. Maybe she's still upset about the dog eating her brother. Or maybe I'm just projecting.

Time:8:29 pm.
Mood: tired.
Spent the past two days doing a minor renovation on the kitchen. Pulled one set of cupboards out to put in open shelving. Turns out the builders did a shoddy job so spent quite a bit of time patching a hole in the false ceiling. Just got finished putting a coat of primer on the walls/trim and remaining cupboards. Painted a small area in the final color, and it looks as though even with the primer it'll take two top coats. Maybe three for the cabinets. Working for 11 hours today (about 10 yesterday), and another full day on tap tomorrow.

Hopefully, I'll be able to relax (and get to my homework) on Monday before heading back to work on Tuesday.

Subject:Idaho. The other white meat.
Time:8:11 pm.
Mood: relaxed.
Just got back from visiting Bryan's family in Idaho. Had a great time. We got there Saturday evening (about 6.5 hours on the road). Listened to The DaVinci Code on CD on the way over, then 1/4 of the unabridged Return of The King on the way back. Granny came down to the house for a little while Sunday and we played some pinochle. Lady is serious about her pinochle. His mom had to work Monday and Tuesday, so Rex and I went and played golf, and Bryan relaxed at the house. On Tuesday after golf I helped Rex feed the cows. About a hundred pair of cow eyes watching every move I made...kind of intimidating (and it sounded exactly like the cow level in Diablo). Might have been because I was giving them names like Tri Tip, New York, Sirloin, T Bone, etc. On the way back to the house from the ranch we got stuck behind a herd of cattle being moved (really wanted to type in moo-ved there, but I decided to do it here instead). All in all a great time was had by all. Very relaxing...looking forward to heading back for one of the holidays later this year.

Jasmine and Abaddon are very happy to have their people back again instead of my crazy parents popping in a couple times a day.

I just fininshed an eleven hour nap. Pretty proud of that. I think part of it is because I'm not used to working on Saturdays, and a friend at another branch asked if I'd come help them out since they were short-staffed. And being the nice guy I am I said yes.

One day until school. Considering dropping one of my classes. Four classes + working full time just might push me over the edge...the wonderful thing about PSU is that you have to drop before the first day of class to get 100% of your money back. How are you supposed to know before the class if it's not going to be a good match?

Six days until a 10 day vacation. Driving to Idaho to see B's family. B will stay at home with mom and I'll golf with Rex. Not exactly the best planning on my part to schedule a vacation the second week of classes, but whaddayagonnado?

Subject:oops I did it again
Time:10:10 pm.
Mood: crazy.
OK, so much for being more consistent about writing (though in my defense, the past 2 times I've tried to, the site has been down)...

School starts up again on Monday. Very excited about that. And I got my ticket to go see Stella in Seattle on Oct 25th. Very very excited about that. And I have a vacation coming up the first full week of October. Very very very excited about that.

I'll be very happy when this quarter is over. It's always a bit stressful at work scrambling to meet/exceed sales and service goals at the end of the quarter. Especially when there is the potential for large cash incentives for the staff. We're doing very well, but the final piece of the puzzle (service rating) won't be in until the last day.
